Lifestyle
I like to live alone. During the day you will find me resting in my home. My home is usually a under a coral ledge or in a cave. I'm nocturnal, so night is when I am active. At sunset, I will leave my home and swim over the reef hunting for food. I will sneak up behind my prey using my beautiful feather-like rays to hide my movement. Then with one big gulp, I swallow my prey whole!
Fun Facts
I may look beautiful, but I am dangerous! I have 13 poisonous spines on my back. I use these poisonous spines to protect myself from predators and to defend my home. I do not like sharing my home with other lionfish. I will charge at other lionfish with my poisonous spines to drive them away. When male lionfish are trying to find a female, we are very mean. We will charge and bite other male lionfish, sometimes even tearing parts of their mouth off! Don't mess with us! My poisonous spines are not deadly to humans, but they are very painful.
Menu
My favorite dinner is crabs, shrimps, and small fish. I will even eat young lionfish! Because I only eat other animals, I am a carnivore.
Threats
Reefs are in danger, and that means so is my home!
