Fifteen years ago today you held me in your arms
The first day of my life, the first of thousands of times you would hold me
You would watch me in my sleep
Kiss my unopened eyes
Wondering what color they would be when they opened

Ten years ago today you danced with me in the rain
Hugged me tight when I was scared, baked me cookies when I was lonely
You always seemed to be there
No matter how long I cried
I used to take for granted how you loved me

Five years ago today I held you in my arms
The last day of your life, the last time you would smile at me
I watched you while they took you
Wheeled you on a bed behind a door
My empty hand was cold, without yours inside it

"It's okay, it's okay" whispered words of yours
Murmurs and sounds I still remember
Though this was all a long time ago
"I love you" were your last words to me
I'll never forget the look in your eyes as you said them

Today is the 6th of June, the day that I was born
It's the day when you brought me in to this world
And the day that you left me alone
The thought of your voice brings back flashes of memories
Memories of all the things we did together

I think it would be different, if you had been here today
Or if you had had another child
But I know you wouldn't do that
You didn't love my father, you only loved me
And I loved you
