I met you on a wild day as you danced your way across the street
Cars honked impatiently as they waited in never ending lines
On the other side we locked eyes, I took in your scent so sweet
That was the first time I can recall that our fingers intertwined.

God, I didn't even know you then, and I don't know you now
All I know is that I'm in love and I'm not a bit ashamed
Sometimes we have our tiffs, sometimes I feel let down
That's when we dance through traffic to take the pain away

Red lights, green lights, long car rides on cool autumn nights
Leaves whistle through the wind and barricade our view
Of yellow lines and flashing signs that always ignite pointless fights
Take it slow like city traffic, and I know we can make it through

I would have felt more secure going steady; cruise control is fine
You were always fond of speeding through intersections, careless and free
Why couldn't you wait for your right of way, or take a little more time?
Instead we ran out of gas, you danced away in traffic, and left me.

God, I didn't even know you then, and I don't know you now
All I know is that I'm in love and I'm not a bit ashamed
Sometimes we had our tiffs, sometimes I felt let down
That's when we danced through traffic to take the pain away

You placed a new sign in my path; a sharp turn ahead
Guiltily, you took it down and decisively remained low profile
A perfect plan to set me up for surprise I guess, instead
Cause you danced away with another girl in that middle lane aisle
The same as you did with me, after we locked eyes that day.

God, I didn't even know you then, and I still don't know you now.
All I know is that I'm in love and I'm not a bit ashamed.
All I know is that I'm in love with You, and I'm not a bit ashamed.
