Alice

If she was . . . Gone, Marcus would be, too. I walked slowly to her, eyes clenched shut, until I stopped in front of her. I listened, hard, for some sign she was alive. I opened my eyes, and mine met her piercing blue eyes, now cold and emotionless instead of warm and happy.. I cried out, and fell, sobbing, and shrieked, a piercing howl. My heart thundered in my chest, a pounding that sounded like knocking on a door. I was . . . Lost. Josh came from behind the trees, and Joshua and Aimee came slowly behind him. I stared at Desiree's lifeless blue eyes, how they had changed from orange and brown to a blue that was deep and mystifying was beyond me. Joshua looked at her, his perfect green eyes watering over. "Des," he moaned, tears flowing over.

Josh held me as I sobbed, and Marcus stared into the sky. He was just as lost as the rest of us. I shrieked her name, and suddenly, felt nothing more. "From dawn to dusk, the sky shall be painted with the blood of an Angel!"

My family stared at me as I shrieked the curse, and the ground shook uncontrollably. My eyes stung, and Josh backed away from me. "Alice!" he shouted, fear in his eyes. "What?!" I shouted back, anger saturating my tone. "Your eyes are blood red!" Josh shouted.

During this time, the sky was turning bright red. Rowan's shrill screams filled the air, and rain fell. I laughed uncontrollably, and looked at Desiree. She looked at ease now, her mouth was set into a faint grin. I sobbed heavily, as Joshua, Josh, and Marcus dug a hole into the ground, and Aimee carried a beautiful mahogany coffin for Desiree. Marcus slid his Demonic Charm over her head, the black pearl that had his name carved into it in gorgeous calligraphy was now resting forever on her perfect shoulders.

"Alice," Josh sighed as he lifted me off of the ground and into his arms. "She's... Gone forever, isn't she?" I whispered through my tears. Josh nodded, his eyes cold and teary. I howled her name, and Josh sighed. "Your eyes are still redder than blood, Alice," Josh whispered. I stood, and decorated my daughter's coffin with flowers, and then very carefully, carved her name into the side with my nail, perfect calligraphy. She was forever sealed inside of it, and a tear slid down my cheek. It landed on the coffin, and I heard the drop. Marcus howled, rage saturating the chilling noise, as we lowered Desiree into the hole in the ground, just under the tree she died under. Aimee and I were carving her name into the tree, name, birth date, and death date as well, while the thudding of dirt made me wince each time it hit the coffin.

"What happened to my mommy?"

I froze at the sound, realizing that Aimee was carrying the baby that my baby wanted. None of us knew how to answer that. "Mommy? Where's Mommy?" Nailani was smart, too smart. "Desiree Nailani Matthews," I whispered, staring at Aimee's stomach. Aimee suddenly lost her mind, shrieking and ranting gibberish, pounded her fists into her stomach. "Get this thing out of me!" she shrilled. "No!" I shrieked angrily. Not Desiree's little girl. I ripped Aimee's arm off, and she howled in response. "Give it back!" she snarled. Joshua took the arm out of my hand and placed it back into Aimee's shoulder. "You cannot hurt my sister's baby. I will not permit it. Respect her final wishes," Joshua said bitterly. Aimee couldn't refuse.

Just when we thought she would cooperate, she rebelled, and I heard the shrill cries of the baby-- Desiree's baby-- before I saw Aimee's pain ridden face.
