Thick and weathered brick
buildings
building loose shadows on the ground
loose chains are on the ground
stretching for miles across
this trodden plane
Every other man is useless
but I know somehow I have a purpose
You'd think I know my purpose now
Where is the water
I hear things
I cannot see
A gray wraith of fog
soaks up our breath
and steals the fresh
Take from us what we've taken
Take from us
Take take
We stand in a line
We stand side by side
You and me
But every other man is useless
and I know I have a purpose
You can't think of a purpose now
You would
let it lie
and now is no time to forget
The gray wraith soaks up
human memory like a fat sponge
into the ruddy ether
A parched abyss
Take take take
Take from us what we've taken
The rest of you
You slide your back against the brick
reds are smudging from my fingers touching
They say every other man is useless
and I know I must have a purpose
I think I know my purpose now
