That's the first thing people say when I tell them I am home schooled. As they look at me in shock I wonder what they think my life is like. Some people will ask me if I'm stupid, and some people will ask me if I have any friends. So to clear things up right now, home schoolers are not stupid and we are not socially inept. Some home schoolers could be smarter than you or have more friends. I'm not saying that all home schoolers are smarter or more popular than kids that go to school; I'm simply saying you can learn and make friends without attending a school.

People test me a lot and ask me questions, expecting me to not know what to say and I often surprise them because I'm not different. We're all human, right? So why do people treat me so differently? I'll tell you why. We live in a society where school is a big part of life. Besides weekends, school is pretty much a kid's life because it takes up so much time in a day. This leads a kid to thinking that school is the only way to go.

In school you're told that if you fail, you won't get anywhere in life, which is not true! My older brother is going to college soon to study web design and he has had barely any experience in school. It proves that you can learn these things on your own. School is just a place where they tell you when you have to learn these things. But I believe in learning at your own pace.

Maybe I'm not good at math or science, but maybe, just maybe I have seen the world outside of school more than you and maybe that teaches me some real important things for life. So how about you don't judge me?

Think about that next time you start to disrespect a home schooler.
