The beats of my heart,
The tempo of life,
Slower,
Slower.
A slow demise.

Golden smiles and
silver laughter,
The sound of a peaceful death,
My own death.

And as the world crumbles
and burns to ashes,
And my safe haven falls down around me,
I wish I was where I belonged.
And I wish where I belonged was with you.

The world collapses around me,
Around you.
Light skitters away in fragments,
Resembling shattered glass.
And the sun's last rays die away.
And miraculously . . .
I ended up where I wanted to belong.
