When you think about it, it's kind of a sad part of life. It's scary, even. It's the time in your life in which you leave your childhood behind, and approach adulthood.

Growing up.

Some people just take it as a part of life, but I've been really pondering the subject lately. And I'm scared. Once you're an adult, boom, you're on your own. You go from having a roof over your head, being fed meals every day, and really having little to no major responsibilities, to being all alone. You have nobody to tell you right from wrong, you have nobody to back you up. A comforting hug may not always be there whenever you need it.

But, that's okay. It's okay because everyone goes through it. It's going to be scary, but we're going to have to tough it out and be strong. Everyone does.

When I was about 5 or 6, I became best friends with a girl who was about four years older than me who lived next door. We did everything together. We spent years growing up together. A few years ago, we moved away from each other, and lost touch. Facebook recently informed me that she's engaged. She's 19 years old, and she's engaged. I absolutely couldn't get the thought out of my head. How could she be getting married? She's too young, she still has time to grow up! This was a major wake-up call for me. It made me realize something. I'm growing up too.

A few days ago, in tears, I approached my mom, informing her I was never going to leave her or my dad, and I wish I could simply be a little kid again. She laughed and told me she had felt the same way when she was about my age, and I found comfort in this. I'm not the only one. Neither are you.

Kids these days, especially teenagers, are growing up way too fast, my old friend included. You've probably seen pregnant girls at your school before, kids doing drugs, etc. So next time you have a choice to make, remember that you're only a kid. Don't ruin your entire life during only the few years you have being a child. You only have one chance to be a kid and that's it. When you're an adult, I can guarantee you will want to be a kid again at one point or another. Don't waste your once in a lifetime opportunity. You will regret it if you do.

Be a kid,
