PANDEMIC

Just as I was eating a slice of scrumptious pizza, it dawned on me what was in it. I mean, before, I just sucked all of the toppings and crust into my mouth life a vacuum. I looked at my hands, which were both soaked in grease all from the pizza. The cheese looked highly calorific and definitely inedible for I was choking on its thickness. Chewing was out of question and so I just swallowed large clumps of it as a whole. So many different aspects made up the pizza, one of them being the pepperoni which was dry and probably really unhealthy.

I then thought about how many times a week I eat unhealthy food and realized that it wasn't a lot. Although I eat pizza once in two weeks, I limit myself to everything else. The last time I had chips was around 2 years ago and I haven't entered a McDonald's in ages (4 and a half years, to be exact). I was actually quite proud of myself and later that day went to thank my parents for bringing me up in a healthy environment where carrots were mandatory and nuts "made you smarter". I asked a few Whyvillians what they think of junk food and whether or not it is a part of their daily lives. Here is what they said.

booksRus: Do you like junk food? (Fries, hamburgers, chips, pop, etc.)
cass402: Yes. I love it.
RimRimLuv: Well, it depends on what kind of junk food you're talking about. It's 50/50. Junk food, well, I like it, but I'm not obsessed.
hailey311: Yes. I know it isn't the healthiest food I can eat and I know it isn't good for me but it is really good. I wish I could stop eating it or shorten up on how much I eat a day.
weird1331: Yeah, I do.
holliabe1: Don't we all?

booksRus: Do you eat junk food often? cass402: I'm sad to say, I do. It's not very good for me though.
RimRimLuv: Yes, I have to say, I eat if often, but really, I'm not obsessed.
hailey311: To be honest, yes. I eat it a lot and too much.
weird1331: Probably once a week.
holliabe1: Pretty much, yeah.

booksRus: When was the last time you ate junk food?
cass402: Yesterday. I still have candy leftover from Easter.
RimRimLuv: It was only about an hour or two ago.
hailey311: I just had some chips, but I am proud of myself because I had some celery and peanut butter with that!
weird1331: I think last week.
holliabe1: I ate a cookie when I came home from school.

booksRus: Why did you eat the junk food you ate last time?
cass402: I love it. It's so delicious, but very bad, health wise.
RimRimLuv: It was a treat -- ice cream. We were supposed to eat out on Sunday, so, we had it as a treat.
weird1331: I was late for class and the fast food place is like . . . 2 minutes away from my college.
holliabe1: Because I was bored and hungry.

booksRus: Would you rather eat a big burger and a large pint of ice-cream or a healthy, yet tasty lunch?
cass402: It depends how tasty the healthy lunch is, but I'd probably pick the big burger and ice cream. I'm very unhealthy.
RimRimLuv: Don't say that I sound like I'm lying to you, but I would take the healthy, tasty lunch.
hailey311: Since you added that tasty in there, I would have to say the healthy yet tasty lunch.
weird1331: I'd go for the burger, haha.
holliabe1: Healthy, yet tasty, because junk food can get sickening.

booksRus: Last thoughts on junk food?
cass402: It's very yummy. But don't eat too much (like me) because junk food is not good for you. Yes, I am a hypocrite. I love junk food. I eat it ALL the time. Too much.
RimRimLuv: Well, don't eat it too much . . .but I don't want to lecture the Whyvillians. You might like to check up on the cases of Jamie Oliver; a British man out to stop junk food in schools. His show is called "Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution", and it comes on ABC (you can also watch it on ABC's website). It interests me and it has this experiment he does that proves that JUNK FOOD IS GROSS; I will NEVER. Eat. Chicken. Nuggets. Again. (If I stop being a vegetarian, of course).
hailey311: DON'T eat too much like I do. It only makes you unhealthy.
weird1331: It's pretty unhealthy but I can't completely cut it out of my life, haha.
holliabe1: You can eat junk food, but don't overeat it! Plus the oil can get gross.

And so I thought I should end this whole article with interesting facts about junk food.

1) In the mood for fast food? An average person will consume 12 hairs in their fast food annually. Gross!
2) In 1970, Americans spent $6 billion on fast food - and $110 billion in 2000.
3) In the past 20 years about half a million cattle ranchers have gone out of business. Today, the remaining 800,000 ranchers are in financial trouble.
4) Today 8 chicken manufacturers control 2/3 of the market in the U.S. They control prices and how chickens are raised.

Put down that cake and don't make a mistake,
