Ever since I was around 5 years old, I knew exactly what I wanted to be. I knew I wanted to sing and dance on stage and be the girl everyone knew. I wanted the fame, and I wanted people to know about me. This week, I had a bit of jealousy when I saw just a normal sixth grader, who really didn't expect to be anyone, become the biggest hit on the web. He was really good, but I just don't understand how someone can become such a hit within a week?

Being a singer is one of those things millions of people want to be, and some succeed, and some . . . don't. Becoming famous is quite rare, and I don't want to say "pick a new career" but, it's to the point where I think I may have to.

I've done talent shows, I've been recorded by video, I've had guitar lessons. I'm not sure if the video was uploaded on the Internet but even if it was, obviously it hasn't become big enough to where I'd have to know. Singing is one of my biggest talents. It's not that I even do it just because I have to anymore, I do it because to me it's really fun and it helps me with the stress in my life.

So even though I'm told to follow my dreams, should I really if my dream is so rare? Because, I know that even if I don't get to do what I love to do for a career, I'd still do it on my own time. But even so, I've had my future all thought out since I was a young child. What do I do now? I really don't know what I want to be when I'm older anymore.

Here was my plan: I was going to get through high school here in the Midwest, then go to college over in New Mexico to get me closer to California, and during that time, I'd see what I could do in California to get a deal. And even if I didn't make it, I'd still do what I loved. Like maybe sing in restaurants and do some video things and upload it on the Internet and just hope for something.

It doesn't seem like much, but I thought that maybe if I actually went for it, and tried really hard and ignored people telling me "no", then something would happen. And I am still going to go and try this out. There's a quote out there and it said "The people who follow their dreams will only get what they want if their willing to sacrifice everything to make it come true."

My heart has been set on being a singer since I was 5. I can't see myself doing anything else. And I am willing to sacrifice, and try my hardest to make it come true. Luckily, maybe it will.

Follow your dreams,
Rachel
