I must seem like a broken record. I'm sure a lot of you have heard how fattening french fries are, but what you might not know is what exactly these yummy potatoes do to you. It's time to investigate

A larger portion of fries (around 170 grams) has almost 550 calories and about 259 grams of fat. If you're an adult you should have only about 65 grams of fat per day. How many of you sit down and dig into a tub of french fries alone? Chances are you are eating something like a burger or hot dog as well. Let's shed are spotlight down on McDonald's for a second. If you eat a large container of french fries and chow down on a Big Mac you'll be consuming almost 1500 calories! That's the maximum amount of calories you should be having in one day in a single meal.

The Harvard School of Public Health did a 20 year study on 84,500 women and found that those women who had french fries just one time in a week were 21% more likely to develop diabetes than those who didn't have any. Plus, you ingest tons of salt which in large amounts can be dangerous to your weight. Some fries are even cooked in animal fat, yum.

There are a few simple ways to avoid some of the damage done. Although it may seem a little obvious for some people, try to eat healthy rather than always eating fast food. Healthy foods can be good and nutritious at the same time. Next, when you're eating fries dip them in a small amount of ketchup. How small? Well, look at your index finger with your palms up. Now about halfway between the top of your finger and the 'line' where the very top of your finger bends is about as far down as the ketchup should be on your fry. Lastly, you can eat half of the fry and leave the rest on the side. This is really useful because you end up cutting out half of the fat. And most importantly never add salt to your fries. They're already salty enough!

You are the only one who can control how you eat. A lot of kids are dictated by their parents on what they ingest. You have to stand up for yourself and your family, it could be the difference between life and death considering how often people die from diabetes and heart disease now. If you're trying to lose weight it's much easier for you to do it with a friend so you can watch over each other.

Enjoy yourselves,
