PANDEMIC
We lie in the rays of the sun
Our feet bare, shoes scattered on the lawn
Grass tickling our arms and legs
Our little mouths forming into a yawn

Pinky toes are licked by the dog's tongue
We laugh, shaking off all of our woe
Seeping in the memories that we'll share
When we grow

We will sit by a warming fire
Telling the tales of the past
A story of the time we first met
Young lives that ended far too fast

Grandchildren sit in our laps
While we relive the good, the bad
Fights and the make-ups
The moments we felt uncontrollably glad

But when the time comes for the fire to die
We must give in to the awaiting darkness
To lay down and close our eyes
To receive the much required rest
