Life is such a short journey
When you think about all you know
People have come and gone
But you never really let go
She was six when we first met
On my very first day of school
I thought I knew everything to ever learn
But I was such a fool
We became good friends and the month rolled on
And we would always smile and say "Hi!"
Neither of us ever thought we'd see the day
When one of us would die
It was Halloween - my favorite day
I was thrilled; I wore a smile
I was clueless that it would be the last time
I would see her for a while
When I came back to school I thought
"She must be absent today" Little did I know what my teacher would miserably say
"She was born with a bad sickness"
My kindergarten teacher cried and cried
"She caught the illness again this weekend. Then . . . she died."
When my mom picked me up from school she asked if anything was wrong
I lied
I went straight to my room and hid under the covers
For the first time that day I cried
Life is such a short journey
When you think about all that you know
People have come and gone
But you never really let go
