When we're little, everyone asks us what we want to be when we grow up. Typical kindergarten answers are firefighters, police men/women, and astronauts. Then when we're a little older, we say things like doctors, vets, and marine biologists. I look back on my answers when I was little, and it always had something to do with the medical field. But now, I'm not so sure.

Both my parents worked in or for the hospital. They were both paramedics, and my mom worked as a secretary for the Emergency Room for about thirteen years. So naturally, I've always had an interest in anything medical. In fact, when I was around three, instead of a bed time story, my mom and I would sit down with an anatomy book (or the body book as I used to call it) and she would teach me the different parts of the body and how they function.

Aside from my love of the medical field, I've always been in love with animals. So whenever anyone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, my automatic answer was a vet. I figured, why not combine the two things I love? But just the other day, my mom asked me, do you still want to be a vet or have you changed your mind? I was about to say, yes of course, but then I pondered my answer for a moment. Did I still want to be a vet?

Recently I've started writing stories and poems. One of them even got published in the Times. I was shocked because it was only my first try. But my mom has noticed me writing and she mentioned the job of an editor.

You could be an editor for a few things: novels, magazines, or newspaper. You could just be checking for punctuation, or changing/giving tips on the plot. My mom has a friend whose brother works as an editor for the New York Best Seller list. He says it takes a lot of work to get to that position, but if you love writing, you'll enjoy it.

And last but not least, editors do in fact, make a lot of money. The average salary of an editor of middle class is about $40,000 per year. Now I know what you're thinking, that is NOT a middle class person. But in the world of editors, it is.

Nobody's rushing my decision in what I want to be; I honestly have no idea. And that's okay. Before you make your final decision, weigh the pros and cons of your different choices and chose the one that you would most likely enjoy the most. Also, make sure your decision isn't based mostly on money, it should only be a minor part of your choice.

Good luck.
