I have become
the weight on either side of the fulcrum
and I don't know when
I am to soar or to descend.

And though you're small, just like a wren,
as you change sides, you change my fate.
When you take flight, my body's drained.
It's always me against the wind.

Not long ago
I looked for luck inside the Tarot.
My mystic said,
"Listen, of all the palms I've read,
this is the most ambivalent."

Superstition feeds the flames,
but I feel no sense of shame
in opening that eye to see
if I should build or burn the bridge.

All the answers that were drawn that day,
didn't narrow all the roads at play.
Fortune smiles upon the bold.
So, until I'm broken, I am sold.
