Sometimes in our lives we make mistakes; some are dumb and some you regret. But we all know what it feels like to be judged, maybe you have judged somebody once. Even though about everyone has heard that expression, 'Don't judge a book by its cover,' we don't all pay attention to it!

I remember one time in the fourth grade, we had a new student named Lucy. Lucy was quiet, shy and short. Instantly I knew she would be dumb and never would speak much, so I didn't want to be her friend . . . but boy was I wrong!

One day I saw a bully picking on Lucy, and she looked like she was about to cry. I went over to talk to the bully, but he pushed me against some lockers. I was about to get up when Lucy pushed the bully and helped me up. The bully was really hurt so he left us alone.

Then one day when passing around our finished graded tests, the teacher said we had two perfect scores: me and Lucy. I was surprised that Lucy aced one of the hardest tests on her first week here!

Now guess what -- the shy, short, quiet Lucy that I would never be friends with turned out to be my best friend for a long, long time! So never, ever judge a book (or person) by its cover (or looks).
