The school year has commenced, or will be starting soon. School means Tests. Tests mean studying which can be a drag but it's important. That's where I come in. I'm going to give you some tips on how to study successfully. Here we go . . .

1. Study in a quiet area where you are less likely to be disturbed. If you have a desk in your room clear that off and study there. If you do this and you share a room with a sibling, it's probably not the best idea as they may need to come in and out. Being in front of the TV is not a good idea as it is a big distraction. The kitchen table? Probably not your best bet either as the kitchen is usually a general place of the house where family members will be constantly.

2. If you like to listen to music while you study, keep the volume quite quiet and don't play anything that will distract you.

3. Take a break at least every hour for around 15 minutes. It's important to take a brake every little while and give your brain a break and it'll help you keep your focus up.

4. Find a method that helps you remember what you need to. If repetition helps you, read it and say it over and over so it sticks. Do acronyms help? Come up with some for key points in whatever you're studying. ROY G BIV is a good example that you probably learned in first grade, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet - the colors of the rainbow. Do pictures help? Draw labeled pictures that you can remember for certain things you need to know. Try whatever methods you can and stick with whatever helps you most.

5. Studying with friends can work but it can also backfire. While having help can make things easier, they can also cause a distraction so do this minimally and don't depend on those 2 hours you spent "studying" with you friend as you main time studying. If you study with a friend, keep them and yourself on track.

6. Asking questions and paying attention in class will lighten the load of stuff you need to cram for and remember.

7. Get rid of distractions. You don't need to text while studying. Put your phone, iPod, Computer and whatever distractions away and don't let them ruin your grades.

I hope my tips helped you. Have a great and successful year in school.
