Tomorrow Starts Now!

"Every day, live life to the fullest, for it may be your last chance."

I'm sure you've heard that before. Now how about this one...

"Don't wait until your friend's funeral to share your feelings of them with everyone. Do it today, do it to their face, so they'll know you care. =)"

Or perhaps this one...

"Be more concerned about your CHARACTER than your REPUTATION, because your character is who you are and your reputation is what others think of you."

I've heard all of them before. I know everyone one of those sayings, a lot of people do, and just like the majority, I would hear the saying and I'd say "Oh, that's an idea... I should really do that. Starting tomorrow, I'll live life to the fullest." Yeah, tomorrow comes and goes, and I miss my chance to start. But, what's not fair is some of the people who have so much ahead of them and have such a love for life that have it snatched from them in an instant. A little confused? Read on...

Just two Fridays ago, I was meeting with my friends at McCafe like we usually do =) There's even a table that they have set up for us! So every Friday like clockwork we arrive, and leave about an hour later. Nothing unusual happened, we talked, laughed, threw some food and then an hour later we started to go. "E" and I decided it was time to leave (Editor's Note: Sorry, Tech, we had to change the names.), and everyone gave me a hug since I was having a basketball try-out the next day. They were all wishing me the best. And we made plans for the weekend. Finally the two of us left, leaving the group behind. Apparently they left about half an hour later, all in one car.

With "S" on the wheel they left McD's. They weren't speeding, they weren't drunk, they were driving correctly doing nothing wrong... FYI, they didn't even have the radio on.. When out of nowhere came a car.

This car crashed into them from the side, sending their vehicle rolling. They rolled three times and ended upside down. One was killed instantly, the driver was knocked unconscious with head injuries, leaving the other three alive with injuries and broken bones. One of my friends, "C", was doing her best to keep "P" awake because he started to doze off after awhile, and she was worried he had internal bleeding and if he slept he might never wake again. The rescue workers got the driver out in the first 30 minutes after the crash; the second one came out 45 minutes after the crash because she was panicking and in complete shock. Next was "C", he insisted that she go before him, and by that time it was over an hour since the crash. After she was out, he fell asleep, and once he was taken from the wrecked car he was announced dead.

As for the drunk driver, he survived -- his reminder of the crash was only a broken wrist and a couple of cuts and bruises.

Just two days ago I received a call saying that "C" had committed suicide, she couldn't take the pain anymore. She'd snap at everyone, telling us we had already forgotten the two who'd died. The truth is we hadn't and we won't. And to know she's taken her life because she couldn't cope is probably the most tragic part of this, I know he would never have wanted her to do that, no one wanted her to do that and no one blamed her for snapping at us. As for the driver, he's still on life-support... they don't believe he'll make it... even if he makes it through, he'll have serious brain injuries, so his family are talking about turning it off. The last girl, "K", is still alive and living day-to-day; she's determined to live life to the fullest and make the most of her opportunities. Sometime soon she'll be facing the courts and all her friends will be there to back her.

At their funeral there wasn't a dry eye in the place, it was a touching ceremony the perfect chance to say our final farewells to our friends. I treasured them, I loved them, they were all special to me for different reasons: the guys would always make me smile, "L" was the kindest and most thoughtful person I knew, "C" was such a talented singer and she'd always encourage you, and "K" is the most determined person I know -- she loves life.

I miss my friends so much. But if something is learnt from this, it's that every day you live, you all beat the odds of death... the chances of you dying the next day are extremely high, but you beat the odds! Every day! Don't waste that, you can achieve amazing things if you try, if you take your opportunities and love life. Tell your friends how much they mean to you, tell your crush your feelings, talk to your family because you may not see tomorrow.

I got your back, And you got mine, I'll help you out anytime, If a broken heart needs a mend, I'll be right there til' the end. If your cheeks are wet from drops of tears, Don't you worry, Let go of your fears. Hand in hand love is sent, We'll be friends til' the end.

To all my friends, I care for you alot. You guys and gurls have a very special spot in my heart, your loved and whatever happens and whatever you do deep down, know that I'll always love you =)

Take Care,
Tech-Girl
