A Sonnet Lesson

Nipster
Whyville Poet

Hi everybody, it's me, Nipster. I am in my school right now and I would like some people to see my poetry. I wrote a sonnet for English class (I didn't have to, but anyway...) that I'd like to share, in honor of Shakespeare's birthday, which is April 23rd.

If you do not know what a sonnet is, then let me explain. A sonnet was used in Elizabethan times as a greeting. It has 14 lines which have a rhyme pattern of ababcdcdefefgg (I'll show what I mean when I write it). Usually it has 10 syllables to each line, but that was too hard for me to write here.

I hope you like it.

a    When you are near
b    I never feel blue
a    I have no fear
b    This love is true
c    I never want
d    What you cannot give
c    You never taunt
d    The way I choose to live
e    If you truly love me
f    Of that I have no doubt
e    There is no need to be
f    Worried about me being without
g    I know exactly how you feel
g    That is how I know this love is real
