I'm going to be honest. I love musicals. Something about using music to help tell a story keeps me hooked. That's what this series will be about. In each article I'm going to talk about a different musical. Each article in this series will have 4 sections to it: The Cast, Plot, Background and All That Jazz, Jazz Hands, and My Thoughts. Anyways, enough explaining, on with the show!

This week I'd like to talk about a popular Internet musical called "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog".

THE CAST:

Neil Patrick Harris as Dr. Horrible
Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer
Felicia Day as Penny

PLOT, BACKGROUND, AND ALL THAT JAZZ:

"Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" is a musical produced for the Internet. It's viewed in 3 acts, with rumors of a fourth coming in the future. Written and directed Joss Whedon, this musical follows Dr. Horrible, an evil villain trying to get accepted into the Evil League of Evil. He falls in love with Penny, a girl he meets at the laundromat. Penny has a kind heart for the homeless and wants to have a homeless shelter created. One of Dr. Horrible's evil schemes backfires, almost killing Penny. She is saved by the hero, Captain Hammer and falls in love with him. Will Dr. Horrible ever get Penny Back? You'll have to watch to find out.

JAZZ HANDS:

This musical contains many catchy tunes including "Brand New Day" and "My Freeze Ray" My personal favorite song is entitled "My Eyes" It has a sweet yet catchy tune. There's not really any huge 'break into song and dance as a group' type numbers in this musical which could be appealing for those who aren't a fan of that vibe. It's more solos or duets that are sung throughout this tale.

MY THOUGHTS:

I was skeptical about watching this at first. A 40 minute Internet musical about an evil villain? I'm not much of a superhero person but I was pleasantly surprised. This musical is funny with a good plot and a twist ending. It is cheesy but honestly, what part of breaking into song in public isn't? Overall, I adore this musical and would recommend it to anyone.

If you haven't seen this musical, look it up. I bet you'll enjoy it!

And remember, NEVER IGNORE THE EVIL LAUGH.

"A lot of guys ignore the laugh, and that's about standards. I mean, if you're gonna get into the Evil League of Evil, you have to have a memorable laugh. What, do you think Bad Horse didn't work on his whinny? His terrible death-whinny?" -Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog

Editor's Note: This musical is best suitable for viewers age 10 and up. As always, please discuss with your parents or guardians before and after viewing.
