Why Be Nice?

No one believes you when you say, "Giving feels great." No one can comprehend how giving can feel better than receiving. We all want and want but we don't see what we have. We all have friends whether you have one or one hundred, and people who care about us even if they barely know you. I care about every single human being that walks the earth. Just because I never come in contact with more then half of them does not mean I do not have the capacity to care for every one of them. If you feel like no one cares about you now, you haven't met the person that will. That person is out there, and you could be the same person for someone else.

Bullying hurts. Not only does it hurt the person being bullied but it also hurts the reputation of mankind. It may build character in some people who are bullied but it always results in an insecurity that is really hard to get rid of. Insecurities result in more bullying to make up for it in some cases. If this is true, aren't we all just creating a chain reaction of ultimate destruction to the reputation of humanity? Why do we want to be involved in the definition of humanity as creatures who hurt one another for personal gain or thrill? Is the thrill of beating someone down to nothing that addicting that there is no way to stop you from doing it again?

Well, how about being nice? Yes, you heard me. I want you to be nice to people. Go ahead and laugh about it, joke about it, and get it all out of your system. The truth is, I know I can't just ask you to be nice and expect you to do it. That's why I'm going to convince you as much as I can and if I can't succeed, then you are allowed to laugh uncontrollably in my face. Does this sound like a plan to you? Well, you don't really have any choice unless you stop reading so here it goes.

Think about how lousy you might feel about yourself right now. The reason you might feel this way is because you may feel like no one cares about you, you have low self esteem because of bullying, you have done something you regret, or people who are very important to you have recently put you down. There are various ways of fixing these problems. While most people decide to do negative things like make fun of other people to make up for their insecurities, do drugs, or prevent people from becoming close to them, you can heal these problems by being kind, giving gifts, donating to charities, or helping others who are in need. By doing these things, you are not only improving your character but you are bound to make a lot of new and trustworthy friends who are doing the same things that you do. I always say, "When you don't see hope in yourself, find hope in someone else." Overtime if you put an effort into being the best person you can be, things will become easier.

Now, I know a lot of you don't like helping, but that is because you haven't tried it. I guarantee that you will start to feel a lot better about yourself when you do good for others. By doing good for others, you will in turn find less to criticize in yourself. People will start to admire who you are instead of calling you names and talking behind your back. Of course you can't get rid of those kinds of people, but you don't have to be a part of them or under their criticism any longer. Once you build a foundation of hope among other people you have helped, they will help you back and will admire the person you are. It does not matter how terrible you were in the past, people can change and you can all make a change for the better.

Do you still think being nice won't make you feel better? If so, I'll tell you this. Try for a little while, maybe a month or a week, just to be nice to the people around you. Bite your tongue when you see someone wearing something you don't like and instead just nod to them with a smile. Compliment a girl or guy you have made fun of in the past with a simple "You look nice today," or apologize for making fun of them in the past. Start talking to people you would never talk to before and in turn you can make friends that will last a lifetime. Become that person that everyone wants to look up to. The future, new, and better you is right around the corner.
