I realize when this comes out, Mother's Day will be in full bloom, but who's to say you can't do these things for your mother all week long?!

Mothers . . . we all know at least one. But do we really know all the little things that they do for us? We do recognize them, but how often do we take the time to say, "Thanks." Some of us do say that when our moms do something extra for us. Most of us, on the other hand, shrug it off.

Give back. Make your mom a special gift, or even a breakfast in bed! This Mother's Day, I want to challenge you to do something extra for your mom. I know she deserves it no matter how much you like or dislike her, because I know deep down everyone loves their moms. Simple ways to make her feel special are to: make her a card, make a breakfast in bed surprise, or simply say, "I love you."

If you want to stick with the card idea, it is obviously a fairly simple concept. All you have to do is cut out some paper, then write some words, then give it to her. This seems a little dull, doesn't it? So to spice your card up, pick out a different color paper, and make the words pop. Also, add some drawings or old pictures to make the card mean a whole lot more than words. Oh, and remember that giving your mom flowers never gets old. I know it doesn't for my mom!

The breakfast in bed idea may surprisingly not be the hardest one out of the three mentioned. The basic ingredients for one are: cereal, milk, toast, and some extra love. Once again, that is the bare minimum your mom deserves. If you want to go all out, be sure to get some orange juice, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, and extra love. Please don't put just a cereal bowl or plates and cups on her without a little lap-table! If you just let the items sit on her, she might not be too happy. Also, if your mom is not a morning person, try making her some lunch or dinner which she will remember!

This last idea might be the hardest for some of you. It only takes four words, yet it pains people to say it. "I love you, mom." About half of the teenagers (including myself sometimes) do not appreciate their mom as much as they should. We yell at her, defy her, and hurt her feelings without really realizing what we have said or done. This Mother's Day, try to make it up with her not only by saying those four words, but add in something extra. Give her a big old bear hug. Heck; even kiss her on the cheek! Most mothers are like God in a way. They will forgive you no matter what you do. Just give it a try to bond with your mom this week, and let her know you really do appreciate her.

If you don't have a mother anymore, don't be put down. Please do not be put down by the content that is in this article. Remember your mother, and all she has done for you when she was still around. Go to her grave, or call her (if your parents are separated). Even though you won't get the response of hugging and love if you remember her memories, I'm positive, you will still be happy. I know that whenever my mother goes to her sister's and brother's graves, she is both glad and sad at the same time. I know she misses them terribly, but every time she goes there, she remembers the fun times they used to have. If you cannot mail your mom anything due to long-distance troubles, just simply call her. Your voice on the other end of that phone should mean the world to her, especially if you haven't seen her in a long while.

This Mother's Day week, just basically do everything you can for your mom. Like I said, I know that no matter what goes on, she deserves it. Remember that even the smallest of things means more than anything to your mom. No, I don't mean get her something like a small rock or something similar. No. I mean just a hug every once in a while, or try saying, "I love you" more often.

I love you Mom,
Jon Paul (DeadSnaii)
