PANDEMIC

I gazed off into the distance, soaking in all that had happened. Everything was a movie to me, someone else's problem. Her face glued permanently in my mind caused me to cry as if I were a toddler who just scraped her knee.

I shifted my position on the chair which I use as a lock to my bedroom. My eyes focused on a picture of Jenna and I nudging each other close, smiling at the camera. Pain and anger started to boil inside of me. I quickly rose from my seat and snatched the picture away from the spot it had rightfully claimed for years. I traced my fingers along the pen markings she had made on the back of the picture. I smirked at the irony of her words, "Best friends forever."

I clenched my teeth at her smiling face. My anger got the best of me. I opened my window with the picture frame still in hand. The odor of summer slowly made it's way into my bedroom -- BBQ, fresh cut grass and the humidity in the air. I looked out and saw Jenna giggling as she ran through the sprinkler set on her perfect green lawn. The new girl, Kelsey, was with her.

My eyes started to clench as my face burned like a campfire in an evergreen forest. My tears ran faster as if putting out the fire.

I started to lose my self control as Jenna's words flooded back into my mind. They echoed through my ears and spoke to my heart. I lifted the picture up and aimed it for the black asphalt, as close as I could get it to my traitor's house. I threw it with all my might.

The picture seemed to take its time falling to the ground. It was if gravity wilted away during the minute it took to hit the ground.

The glass shattered across the road, pieces everywhere.

I looked at Jenna. Jenna looked at me. I turned away. Jenna can't hurt me again.
