A human, characterized by pale skin, freckles and bright red hair. "Gingers" are generally considered to be inferior to their more melanin-rich brethren, and thus deservingly discriminated against. Gingers are thought to have no souls. The condition, "gingervitis" is genetic and incurable.

The above is the Urban Dictionary's first definition of a "ginger". This definition is rather accurate. People with red hair are discriminated against on a daily basis. Truth be told, where I live people don't care what your hair color is and people with red hair are treated equally. Now the same cannot be said for Whyville. I have found Whyville to be a very large source of "hate for gingers".

If you've seen me around Whyville, you'd know that I usually have red hair on my avatar. This is because a lot of the time I like to have my avatar resemble what I look like in real life. So yes, I am a ginger. Am I a ginger naturally? No. My real hair color is a very boring brown. I have always envied people with natural red hair, I find them beautiful and different. But my views on redheads is very different than a lot of others.

I was at the Sun Roof one day, and there were two people having a negative conversation about "gingers". One person, seeing that I had red hair on my avatar, said "Oh . . . uh no offense." I told him that none was taken, and that I am actually a redhead in real life. Another girl decided to join in and said "Oh I feel so bad for you!" I responded with "Why? I'm not naturally ginger, I just dyed my hair this color." Her reply was "Ew! Why would anyone ever do such a thing?!" I told her that I dyed my hair red because I find it to be the most beautiful hair color. Her reply was simply "Ew."

I don't understand why people feel the need to judge people based on hair color. Why do people created stupid stereotypes such as "dumb blonds" and "gingers have no souls"? It's pointless and immature. Television doesn't help the matter either seeing as a popular TV show featured "Kick a Ginger Day" which supplied fuel to bullies who decided to actually engage in such behavior as kicking people with red hair.

A ginger is, among other things, a person with red hair, freckles and pale skin. Some darker skinned or non-ginger haired persons feel compelled to denigrate gingers out of jealousy because a ginger's look is unique. Men typically love ginger women.

The above is the Urban Dictionary's second definition of a ginger. Perhaps that's why people treat red-heads differently. Because they're jealous of their unique features. Or maybe because they're scared of someone standing out and being different. Whatever the reason is, it's wrong. We're all people, of course we're all going to look different. Why can't we just accept those differences and stop all this hate?

Blonds are smart.

Brunettes aren't plain.

Gingers do have souls.
