PANDEMIC

The bell rang 9:00. It was time for the doctors to start their work. John walked to Mary Ann's hospital room. She was asleep, so he decided to knock on the door to see if she would wake up. Before he knocked he took a good look at her. She looked different not being all dressed up before. She was still beautiful though! He finally knocked on the door. She slowly woke up, looking around. "Hi, Mary Ann!" He said with tremble in his voice. "H-How are you feeling?"

She smiles. "I am feeling wonderful! Y' know . . . The doctors told me that I should watch out for you." She snickered. "They say you are a ladies man. Chasing every lady you see." John stood there listening silently. Deep down he knew his heart was breaking in half. " I just wanted to let you know before you go trying too hard . . . I am not interested."

John looked down at his feet. "Well . . ." He sighed. "I am glad you are feeling good! I will be back at 10:00 to check on you." He walked out slowly, trying not to look the least bit upset. He sat in the doctors' lounge. His slate was pretty much empty. He only had to check on Mary Ann every hour. In between every hour he sat aching about what she had said. Not only did all his fellow doctors around him hate him, so did half the girls he met up with. He knew Mary Ann didn't hate him. She just wasn't interested in dating him. He felt foolish, like a child.

John sat in the lounge bored out of his mind. He still had 45 minutes to blow. No other doctors were in there. If he was in the lounge, everyone would not go in. Then the new doctor walked in. She looked around, no one was in there. "Where is everyone?" She asked. "Oh! You must be John." John looked at her. Knowing what her next move was going to be. She would turn around and walk out knowing that if she didn't she was going to get into some trouble. Instead, she smiled came in and sat down. "Look . . ." She said, pausing trying to think of a way to say what she wanted to say nicely. "I am not 'into' you . . . That's not why I am sitting here. I think you can use a lesson. Have you ever thought of waiting for your true love to find you? Take your time, take it slow, take life a day at a time. A hour at a time, a minute at a time, and a second at a time. Don't be drooling over every girl you meet trying to rush things and fall in love to quickly. Just wait, and that girl will come into your life, and you will be happier than ever." She smiled. "Oh, and where are my manners? I walk in, give you a whole speech and never even introduce myself! I am Amber. I get the name from my hair." John was to busy listening to her speech to ever look at her traits. She looked at her. She had bright orange hair, she had red eyes. She was wearing a green top with her white doctor's coat over it. She wore hot pink shoes. She was quite a pretty one, but John knew that he had to quit liking every girl.

He cleared his throat. "I am Jonathan, everyone around here calls me John. And the speech you gave, I agree with you. I just can't stop. Every girl I see I end up falling in love with!"

She gave him a devious smile "Don't say you can't stop, you just don't want to." She got up and walked out. Maybe she was right. John took in everything that had just happened. He was going to be a different guy now. He knew he had to change his ways. He wasn't going to be the awkward, nerdy, quiet John anymore. He was going to be the John that cared about his patients, not falling in love with every girl he saw, and he was going to treat the other doctors around him nicer, even if they were down right rude to him.

The 10:00 bell rang. It was time for him to go check on Mary Ann. This time when he got to her room she was awake. "Hi!" She called. "I just wanted to say sorry. It was rude of me to say the stuff I told you earlier." John smiled. "No, you were right. I have had a different perspective on things and I am going to change . . . Thanks, for everything you said." He paused for a while. "So, How are you feeling?"

"Oh, I am much better!" She said smiling. John nodded his head, and left the room. He continued this pattern throughout the entire day. He couldn't wait until tomorrow though. He was ready to change. He wanted to quit his childish ways.

John was leaving to go home and he ran into Amber. "Hey, John! Have you thought about what I said?"

"As a matter of fact yes, yes I did! And I need some advice . . ."

"Advice?" She asked. He nodded his head. "Well, I have to say . . . I am an expert when it comes to advice!

To be continued . . .
