The third novel in the series "The Old Kingdom" had me on the edge of my seat from the very first page. I was immediately catapulted into the world where Lirael and Sam were fighting not only for their own lives, but for everyone else's.

The Destroyer, Orannis, has been freed. The only hope of saving all life, is in Lirael's hands. So as the Abhorsen-in-waiting, Lirael sets off with her companions the Disreputable Dog, Prince Sameth, and his Free Magic creature Mogget to do something that has only been done once before since the beginning of Charter history.

Highlights of This Book:

This novel is captivating. There's so much going on, I never wanted to set my book down.

Drama and confusion! Apparently someone gets murdered, but then they show up to help Lirael and Sam, so they really WEREN'T murdered. It's very strange. Pay attention to the details or you're going to get lost . . .

Sore Spots:

Minor language. With all that's going on in the country, the characters get a bit stressed and say things that they shouldn't.

Minor implications to behavior not appropriate for kids under 13.

Between wondering what was going to happen next, and staying up late to find out, I lost a lot of sleep!

As far as I know, this is the last book in the Old Kingdom series.

Overall Rating:

9 out of 10

Garth Nix has done it again! He's written a novel that perfectly concludes the adventures of the Abhorsens.

Keep reading Whyvillians!
