John had Amber come over to his house that night. He needed to change, and he wanted to start before he changed his mind. "John, what do you really even need advice on, anyways?" Amber asked.

"Amber, I thought about what you said you were right." He paused. " I need and want to change." Amber nodded.

"Okay, how about we start with your hair." Amber offered. "One person can take a good look at your hair and already infer something about you . . ."

"Like what?" John asked concerned, also kind of confused.

"Never mind!" Amber said, trying not to laugh. "Do you have any hair gel?" Amber asked.

"Hair gel?" John asked "Why in the world do want hair gel? I don't want hair gel in my hair!"

"Hey! You asked me to help you. Do you want help or not" John sighed. He nodded his head. "Okay, let's go to the store. Okay?" John nodded. "Do you want to drive your car there?" He nodded again, still nervous about the makeover he was about to get. They got their coats on and silently walked in the car. John hopped in and sat in the driver's side. He slouched down turning on the car. Once Amber saw the way he was sitting, how he wasn't a gentleman and opening the door for her, and all his other rude manners, she knew she had TONS of work to do on him.

The next day . . .

John parked very far back in the parking lot. He wanted to leave the closer parking spots for people who couldn't walk far. When he got to the entrance there was Amber walking up there, too. John ran quickly to the door before her and opened it. "Why, Thank you, Sir!" He nodded. When he passed anyone in the hallways he said a warming "Hello!" To them. He overheard a few doctors saying that he was changing rapidly and maybe he wasn't such a bad guy. Today he didn't have Mary Ann on his list. He wasn't upset over this. He wasn't into her anymore. He read his list of what he had to do today:

Check on Randy White every 2 hours.

Then he read on. He realized that close to the bottom it said:

Escort Mary Ann to lunch.

He wasn't excited, but he was glad he was able to see her and let her see that he is a different guy now. The bell rang 9. It was time to go check on Randy. He knocked on the door quietly, then walked in. "Hello!" John said happily. "I am John. Today I will be checking on you every 2 hours"

"Okay." Randy apparently wasn't a talker, or he was just quite tired. John grabbed the clip board at the bottom of the bed. He was in a motorcycle accident, he was paralyzed from his waist down.

"On a scale to one to ten, Randy, ten being the worst, one being the best, how are you feeling?"

"Hmm, I would say about 4 right now. I just feel all tingly a little in my stomach and chest. Is this normal?"

"Yes, there is nothing we can do about that. Is there anything I can get you?" John asked politely.

"No, I think I am good. Thanks." John walked out quietly. "Wait!" Randy called. "Do you think sometime we can just talk? Like maybe you can escort me to lunch tomorrow and we can talk man to man?" Randy paused. "You see, I don't have any family . . . It's just me. I just want someone to talk to."

John smiled. It was a I feel bad for you smile. "Of course! Request me to escort you to lunch tomorrow." John walked out quietly. The poor man he thought. He went into the doctors' lounge. He sat down in his usual spot. In the corner where the two seater table was, Amber came over and sat by him.

"Wow, everyone is talking about you!" She laughed. "And for once it's in a good way!" She smiled.

He snickered. "Thanks. I don't think I could ever thank you enough!"

"I know how you could . . ."
