I'M BACK!! Sorry I haven't been sharing articles lately, I've been very busy with life. Anyways, this week on :Behind the Design", by popular demand, I am going to be interviewing Abradical on his design, Ghetto Eskimo! It is a Eskimo outfit with a twist . . . a hip-hop style.
Hopeluvs: Hello, Abradical! Welcome to "Behind the Design". Now, I will be interviewing you on a few questions, beginning with Question number one! What inspired you to create this set?
Abradical: With the changing season I really wanted to make some winter/fall related clothing. I happened to see someone wearing Mira's "Poofy Poofz" set and it really inspired me to sort of make a version of my own.
Hopeluvs: Eskimo sets are SO neat! Did you intend to go for a certain look?
Abradical: I wanted to go for a sort of Eskimo look (hence the title) with a hint of a modern hip hop style.
Hopeluvs: It IS perfect! I am so amazed at the small details and shadings that you've put into it. This brings us to the next question! How long did it take to create Ghetto Eskimo as a whole?
Abradical: The whole set probably took me about an hour and a half or so.
Hopeluvs: I could tell it takes a lot of time. I noticed many parts look realistic; was that hard to achieve?
Abradical: I try to put as much detail as possible into my designs, especially my shirts because it gives it a more realistic look. Even though they usually take me a while it's worth it when you see the final product.
HopeLuvs: Are there any interesting facts behind this design?
Abradical: There's no particular interesting fact, I just wanted to make something fun for the season.
Hopeluvs: Now, I shall interview you questions about you as a designer. When did you start designing?
Abradical: I would say mid to late 2009 as a serious designer.
Hopeluvs: That's such a long time! As far as designs go, how many have you made?
Abradical: I've made 272 designs give or take my Newbie and trinket parts.
Hopeluvs: THAT MANY??! Oh gosh, congratulations on designing that many! For designing, do you use a mouse or a tablet?
Abradical: I used to use a mouse until I got a tablet for Christmas in 2010, now I use that pretty much all the time. Since then my designs have improved SOO much. I would definitely recommend one to serious designers even though they can be a bit pricey.
Hopeluvs: Overall, as a designer, was there any goals you were trying to achieve?
Abradical: When I first started I wanted to be really famous and have a whole bunch of rares; but when I actually got into it I really just wanted to design for myself, which I pretty much do now.
Hopeluvs: I have one of your rares, Lil Bow Peep! I was known for being Lil Bo Peep of Whyville for awhile! HAHA. Anyways, final question. Do you have any words of advice for beginner designers?
Abradical: I would tell beginners to study their favorite designers and keep drawing! By looking at other people's work you will begin to see patterns, shading, shapes, and proportions that you can use in your own designs. Also, find your own unique style! If you look at any famous designer's work it's usually pretty easy to notice their style. If you keep at it you'll start developing your own without even realizing it.
Interviewing Abradical this week was an AMAZING experience! He is such an amazing guy and is so open! He is willing to answer any questions, and help me with the interview. Thank you! This design overall personally, is a wonderful design for guys. It's a great outfit for themed BCs, and for unique looks! This week, as a special, I requested Abradical to model this design for us. The below following is an EXAMPLE of how you could incorporate it into the avatar.
With this outfit, he incorporated a cup of coffee. It's a wonderful, smart way to get the taste of Eskimo into it as well. I love the fact that along with the outfit, his look is SO realistic.
