The girl, five years of age
garbed in her pajamas
with hair unbrushed
sits at her desk

The girl, twelve years of age
watches the computer power up
and guiltily puts off what she must do for later

The girl, fourteen years of age
goes to her favorite websites
seemingly only to have a moment on the machine

The girl, eighteen years of age
looks at the night sky
and remembers the blue she saw
what only seemed like a moment ago

The girl, thirty years of age
goes to bed
guilty of procrastination
and wasting time

The girl, eighty years of age
realizes she has
wasted her life
on technology

The girl, now on her deathbed
watches the pendulum swing
and listens to the clock chime twelve
ending a wasted life.

That girl shall not be me.
