I backed away slowly, tumbling over onto the ground. "Wh- Where did you come from?"
Her dark face stared back at me through the mirror. I thought back to how she used to cradle me gently in her arms when I was so much younger. Now her expression was fierce and her skin had turned to a caramel shade. Her deep voice rang through my ears.
"Bella, you've grown up so much . . ."
I closed my eyes, hoping this was all just a dream. "Wake up, wake up!" I whispered to myself. How could it be real? Any of this . . . My dead aunt was talking to me. Yes, my dead aunt was talking to me. Through a mirror.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
"Wake up!" I screamed into the silence.
"Bella, calm down!" Her voice sent chills down my spine.
"Why am I here? Take me back home! Give me back Jaden and Grace! I can't take any of thi-"
"Shhhhh!" She burst out through the mirror. She had no body, just a cloud of air trailing behind her. She darted over to me and hovered above. "I said be quiet! You're going to wake them up."
"Wake who up?"
"What? My parents are here to?"
"Yes . . ."
"Let me talk to them." I squealed.
"Not now Bella. I need to go talk to Grace and Jaden about-"
"Nevermind." Another envelope flew out from the mirror. "Read this while I'm gone."
And with that, my Aunt disappeared. I flipped the envelope over in my hands, still trying to make sense of this all.
"Darren, are we going to get to go back home...?" I asked.
I grabbed Jaden's hand. I heard light footsteps trailing towards us. Darren disappeared.
Tears trickled down me like a river. "I'm scared," I whispered.
"Hello!" a distant voice called out.
"Ah!" I shrieked. I caught my breath and let go of Jaden's hand. "Debby? Bella's Aunt Debby?"
"Let us go. We don't want to be here." Jaden said.
"First, I'm going to need your help."
"With what?" I asked, rolling my eyes.
"I need you to go back to Earth and-"
She disappeared and left us sitting there alone.
