It was a beautiful Saturday evening. My best friend since I was 11 was getting married. I had flown in from California to Virginia for the event. I knew quite a few people at the wedding, but I also knew I was the only single bridesmaid. Looking for someone to share the evening with, I asked some of the guys I knew if they had any single friends. They told me I had to meet their friend Mike. But the reception was almost over and with over 200 people in the room, I still hadn't met him. Finally, a guy came over to me and said, "Hi, I'm Mike." I asked, "Are you the Mike I'm supposed to meet?" He had no idea what I was talking about. For the rest of the evening we laughed, danced and got to know each other. The next day he asked if he could hang out with me. We spent the entire day together until 4 in the morning when I had to get on the plane to go back to California. The next day he called me and asked if he could buy a plane ticket to come visit me. That was almost 5 years ago. We've been together ever since!

When Mike asked me to marry him, I have to admit, I wasn't surprised. We had been together almost 4 years and had been talking about it for awhile. But that doesn't mean I wasn't excited. This was the man that had literally changed my life. I went from being unsure of myself and my future, to knowing exactly where I needed to be. He gave me hope for a life I could have only dreamed of. So when he got down on one knee in front of the building where we met, I knew my answer . . . but first I had to put on the ring! He laughed and asked, "Well is that a yes?"

Planning a wedding can be very stressful for some people. We had a fairly long engagement, over a year, so it wasn't that bad for me. Plus, being a producer for a living kind of sets you up to plan big events. The first step was finding the perfect place. Once we found that, it all fell into place. We had showers and parties, picture sessions and fittings. And now the big day is here.

I'm sitting in my room getting ready to go have breakfast with all of my family and friends. In just a few short hours, I'll be walking down the aisle to the love of my life. It's an odd feeling, really. Knowing that something you've thought about your whole life, imagined for the last 5 years, and planned for months is finally happening.

I can't wait for him to see me in my dress. I can't wait to dance together. I can't wait to party with our family and friends. But most of all, I can't wait to begin my life as his wife.

I guess all that's left to say is, "I do."

And for all the girls who are curious . . .

Editor's Note: Following the wedding, we're heading to Costa Rica for our honeymoon. I'm sorry to say, but there will not be an issue on June 3rd. We'll be zip-lining in the jungle, or rafting down the river, but don't worry, I'll be back for June 11th.
