"Who would like to take the goldfish home today?"

"Miss, Miss, Miss! Please let me take it home today! Please me!"

"Okay, Bob will be taking home the goldfish today. But remember, Bob only feed him one pinch of fish food a day." Miss Tenner explained this very clearly to Bob.

Bob was so excited. He had never been asked to take home the goldfish before. As soon as he got home he rushed into his room plopped the tank down onto his desk. Oh little goldfish, he thought, how I have always dearly wanted to take you home with me. The goldfish looked up at him with goggling eyes, bubbles popped out of its rounded mouth and splashes swirled from his flapping fins onto the surface of the water.

Oh no, he might be hungry, Bob thought. In his bag he rummaged until he found the small little bottle of fish food. Pop, went the lid as he lifted it up. Carefully, Bob took out one pinch of fish food and scattered over the water in the goldfish?s tank.

Immediately, it raced up to the top of the tank and nibbled in delight. After finishing, it looked up at Bob with pleading eyes. Bob knew he shouldn't feed the goldfish anymore today. But its fishy face just looked too adorable. How could he resist?

"Okay," Agreed Bob, "But just one more pinch."

He popped open the bottle once more and fed the goldfish again. This time, he drew his glance away to his bedroom cupboard to avoid the goldfish's pleading gaze.

The next morning Bob got up to feed the goldfish again. It had grown a bit more than the previous day. "Hello little goldfish." He cooed and added a pinch of fish food into its tank. Then, its begging eyes looked up at him again. Bob couldn't imagine only being feed one pinch of food a day. He would starve. The goldfish must be really hungry he decided and added an extra three pinches of fish food for that day.

The next day Bob added five more pinches of fish food. And the day after that he added six. Soon the gold fish was being feed eleven pinches of fish food a day!

Each day it grew bigger and bigger. Until one day it was so big its fins were nearly touching the glass walls of the tank! "Hello again, little goldfish." Bobby said one morning and handed out its usual helping of food.

Hungrily, the goldfish snatched it up. Instantly it grew bigger. And bigger. And bigger. And even bigger. Then, the goldfish was nearly as big as the tank. Then it was the same size as the tank! Until, soon it became bigger than the tank! Only trouble occurred after that . . .

Bobby saw the glass starting to crack where the goldfish's scaly body was pushing up against it. He saw water starting to leak through those cracks and onto the ground. Slowly, more glass split and more water leaked onto the ground.

Until, suddenly the goldfish's porous body exploded the tank and all the water splashed out into the room. Bobby's screams came out as gulps as he lapped at the water around his mouth. The enormous goldfish starting swimming towards him. "Help!" he squealed in panic. But his cries were drowned out by the swirling water.
