Chances are you have probably been called a 'Newbie' (or something along the lines of that anyway). Maybe you've even called somebody one. If not, that's great! But, just stop and think. Hasn't everyone been, at one point in time, a 'Newbie'?

Whyville has always been one of my favorite websites. I mean, I even showed it to one of my science teachers! But, everyone knows that it's hard starting out on Whyville, and it doesn't help with all the 'Newb!' stuff flying around in chat rooms. Most likely it's caused by the way one's avatar looks. So, I put that theory to the test.

First, I went to chat rooms like Beach South and Sun Roof. I used two accounts, XLuvNYouX and the other N3wbie. On XLuvNYouX, I said a simple 'hi' and I got hi's, hey's, and even started a nice conversation with someone. On N3wbie, I said 'hi' and I got 'get out of here, noob', the well known '<.<' face, 'Uhm', and ignored. The difference wasn't surprising. I expected it. Thing is, I shouldn't.

Since everyone on Whyville was a beginner at sometime or another, who gave who the right to call someone a 'Noob'? Is there a benefit from calling somebody a 'Noob'? Coming from someone who has been called a Newbie many a time, please stop. You're embarrassing yourself. And if you see someone doing it, stick up for the victim. Really, make Whyville a better place. Get the scissors, and cut it out.

Thanks for Reading!
