Before I start this article, I would like to preface it with the fact that I am in no way a "fashionista". My standard wardrobe consists of jeans and a t-shirt with flip flops. My most important concern is being comfortable. However, while walking through Macy's the other day a particular brand in the Junior's section caught my eye. Many of you may be familiar with it, it's called American Rag.

American Rag is a brand sold exclusively to Macy's. It has been sold nationwide in 610 stores since 2003. I'm not sure why it took me 9 years to catch on, but I guess that proves how little I go shopping for clothes . . . I found it very interesting that according to the brand's Facebook page, it actually all started with a small store in Los Angeles.

The style of American Rag is casual, vintage and indie. It appeals to quite a broad age range, though skewing towards the teens on most of the items. According to the brand's Facebook page, "The American Rag female shopper is looking for a fresh, unique style yet still wants to look and feel sexy." I think that perfectly sums up the style. My favorite part about the brand . . . it's affordable! And you know Macy's is always having amazing sales and additional discounts, so you can easily find a great piece for under $20.

Another interesting fact is that the brand started a magazine called "Ragged" in 2006. This free magazine showcases musicians wearing American Rag clothing. It is a perfect synthesis of the fashion and music industries. You can check out the magazine at http://raggedmag.com/.

Here are some pictures of their most recent line.

If you're looking to freshen up your wardrobe for the new school year at an affordable price, go check out American Rag at your local Macy's.
