Owning a pet can really help you reduce stress as you can relax watching fishes in an aquarium or your pets playing. You know if you are happy and stress-free it will have a positive affect on your heart and thus reducing the possibility of heart attack. Mere presence of pets have the same result.
If you own a pet you will be less self-centered than others who do not own a pet. Mentally-challenged people feel better with a pet for company.
While taking your pet to the vet, dog-training classes or to the park, you meet more and more people. Speaking with them increases your connection with the world making you social. Pets also decrease the feeling of loneliness or isolation in case of elderly people. It also gives us a general feeling of well-being.
