Hello Whyvillians! This is the first installment of "Music Talk". This week, we are talking about Katy Perry!

Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, or her stage name Katy Perry, is an actress, songwriter, and an American singer.

Katy was born on October 25th, 1984 in Santa Barbra. She grew up in a religious house. That's how she got into music. She sang in her church under her birth name. Her parents forbade her to listen to "mainstream" pop music, so she had to stick to church hymns. When she was a teen, she released her self-titled debut album. In 2007, Capitol Records signed her and adopted her stage name, Katy Perry.

Katy Perry's first song published was "One of the Boys" in 2008. Later, "I Kissed a Girl" went out with 'Hot N' Cold" and "Waking up in Vegas". After those songs went out, she went on her first tour "Hello Katy" in support of the album. After that, she tried a second time for "Teenage Dream", which was a commercial hit, topping the charts in several countries. Some of the number-one hits on Bill Board Hot 100 were Katy Perry's! The songs "California Girls", "Teenage Dream", "Firework", "E.T.", and "Last Friday Night(T.G.I.F.)" It became the first album in history recorded by a female artist to achieve this, and the second after Micheal Jackson's Bad (1987). That's a big thing! In support of that album, she went on her "California Dreams" tour. Teenage Dream was followed by a re-release entitled The Complete Confection that spawned an additional number one, "Part of Me".

Katy Perry, while working on her music career, had a love life. Her first love was Tyler Mccoy, which was her first failed relationship. Then, she married a British comedian, Russel Bran, in 2010. In December 2011, Bran filed a divorce.

She went on to making a 3-D movie "Part of Me".

See you next week for the next "Music Talk"!
