Elizabeth Grant (Lizzy Grant) was born in New York City, New York on June 21, 1986. However, she grew up in Lake Placid, New York. When she grew up, she would perform at local bars, but she felt like she needed to go bigger.

Lizzy was originally signed into an indie label, but the company had gone out of business. After that, Lizzy went to record labels to show them a piece of her work, but none of them were interested in he style of music at the time. She released a full-length album in January of 2010 as Lana Del Rey a.k.a. Lizzy Grant.

How did she get her stage name? It came over a series of managers and lawyers who wanted a name that better fit her style. "Lana Del Rey" is a combination of a late Hollywood actress, Lana Turner, and the car, Ford Del Rey.

Del Rey's big hit that really got her started was "Video Games", which she wrote with a composer called Justin Parker. She uploaded her performance to "Video Games" on YouTube in 2011. The response from her video was absolutely stunning. She signed a deal with Interscope a few months later to release the song for wider market.

In her first live television performance, on Saturday Night Live, she was criticized for being an "amateur". Del Rey defended herself by saying that she had been singing for a long time, and that she wasn't so bad.

Her album, "Born to Die", was originally released in January of 2012. She re-released it in the summer of 2012 under Interscope Records and Polydor. With her boost to stardom, Del Rey has the intentions of working with other major hip-hop artists in the distant future.

Lana Del Rey is a wonderful artist. Others may not agree with my opinion. They they might say that her songs are 'too slow'. Some people don't like her due to her facial features! She has been accused of having rhinoplasty and lip augmentation. As for me, I don't care about what she looks like. I personally think that she looks beautiful. As for her songs? I think that they are calming. I enjoy her music, period.

Some may ask 'What is your favorite song?' Well, I can't just choose one! That's impossible to me! But I will recommend a few of my favorites. "Born to Die" is the first Lana Del Rey song that I listened, and absolutely fell in love with. That one, I suppose, may have that special connection between Lana Del Rey's music and I. Other songs that I enjoy from her are "Summertime Sadness", "Blue Jeans", "Body Electric", "Ride", "National Anthem", "Lolita", and "Video Games". I like all of her songs, but those are the ones that really pop out at me.

Now, I want you to listen to Lana Del Rey. See if you like it or not. If you like it, wonderful! We have something in common. If you don't like her music for some reason, try again!

Author's Note: The songs I recommended may have drug affiliated lyrics, swearing, and death involved with them. You may want to have a parent review the video or song before you do.
