The broad-billed hummingbird; such an extraordinary creature! This little guy only weighs around 3 to 4 grams! All of you chemistry whizzes know that is very tiny -- especially for a little bird! This type of hummingbird is not seen often compared to other hummingbirds, however. The broad-billed only lives between southern Mexico and as far as Arizona. Also, did you know that the majority of hummingbirds, including this one, cannot walk or hop? They fly at all times when not perched on an object! Unlike the beautiful red/orange beak, their tongues are actually a metallic silver!

I wish I had more interesting facts for you, but I don't since I saw this hummingbird at a local zoo in my state. The designated guide was hard to understand, so I had to read a plaque to get any information. That was hard, too, since I had a group of people trying to shove their way closer to the aviary pen. Zoos are a great way to get photographs of exotic creatures that are not native to your country, so give it a whirl next time you visit a zoo! You never know what kind of snapshots you can get!
