My last published article in the Times was in 2006. It was for the "Bridge to Terabithia" contest where you had to write about your best friend and I wrote about my father, who passed away months before I'd written that article. My mom was so proud of me for writing that article, it wasn't even the fact I won, she just loved knowing that my father and I were so close. She printed out copies of the article and kept them in her purse, showing them to literally anyone and everyone she came into contact with. She always told me it was such a great acknowledgment to my father.

Now I am writing this article because shortly after school ended in June my mom was hospitalized, and only a week later in July she passed away. I feel the need to come to the Times to share something special for my mom in writing because I know she was so proud the first time around when I did it for my daddy.

I have two sisters, both older. When my mother passed away we knew we wanted to get a tattoo to bring us together and symbolize that we will always be there for each other. We decided the words "We will never drift apart" were an impeccable fit - through all the curveballs life threw at us, all the tears and turmoil - we never left each others sides. We became closer whenever something happened, and now we have this bond that is as unremovable as a tattoo.

My two older sisters got theres on their forearm, and mine is on my foot.

Mom and dad I know you are watching down from heaven and I hope you are proud. Mom, I hope this is an article you would carry in your purse. RIP, I love you both dearly.
