PANDEMIC
Lying lazy in my bed,
Warm fleece blankets overhead
But shrill shrieking sounds
rip through my head.
Why can't I just stay in bed?
BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP
9 o' 10 is here
Roll on over, shut it off
10 minutes couldn't hurt

Wrapped up, chilly in my bed
This blanket doesn't help a shred
"Should've doubled up," I said
When blaring bells rung in my head
RING, RING, RING, RING
9:20 ringing clear
Crawl to the table, one more time
20 minutes couldn't hurt

Shivering, shaking in my bed
I swear the sun is almost dead!
I tear off the useless, tattered threads
And look despairingly straight ahead
It came so silently, you'd never hear
That 9:22 is finally here
I slept through summer, who'd have known?
The first fall breeze has already blown.
