The beginning of each New Year has thousands of people hopeful to make the year their best year yet. The year of 2014 has come rather quickly and now that we have rang in the New Year; people are beginning to start their New Year's resolutions and trying to make this year better than the last. A New Year's resolution is a goal in your life that you would like to maintain for the entirety of the year. Some common resolutions are eating healthy, working out more, and losing weight. I thought I would talk to a few of our whyvillians about their thoughts on the New Year and find out if any of them have resolutions. I have interviewed JaceDemon, HoneyBbz9, xoxkitkat, jts2000, and 3leven.

DahCutie: Do you have any New Year's resolutions this year? If so, what are they?

JaceDemon: My resolutions are the same as they were last year. One is to get around to telling several of my friends something about me, but seeing that I am incredibly lazy . . . The second is to work on the only story I started writing years ago.
Honeybbz9: My New Year's resolution is to have more self-trust, sometimes I feel as though I depend on other people when I can do things myself.
Xoxkitkat: Yes! I'm getting back into piano lessons this year and I'm resolved to stick with them. I've taken lessons before in piano, guitar, and flute and quit in the middle, but not this time!
Jts2000: I should, but I don't.
3leven: Find better ways to manage stress, Get more in shape (kind of a typical resolution), and to be more green, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!!

DahCutie: Do you think that most people tend to stick with their resolutions or eventually drop them?

JaceDemon: Well, seeing as almost every person's resolution is to either lose weight or be healthier, it's easy to say most of them are dropped. Either because they cannot keep up with the resolution or obstacles have gotten in their way to prevent them from doing their resolution.
Honeybbz9: I know some people who for sure stick to their resolution, because they are very eager to improve. However there are some who find it difficult to stick to their resolution. Particularly with things like eating less sugary food, some people eventually drop out. Like me.
Xoxkitkat: Unfortunately I think a lot of people end up forgetting about their resolutions, although that doesn't mean they can't make big life changes that year. I know for me, the urge to make a big overhaul in my life always comes up during moments I wouldn't expect and not necessarily at the start of a new year.
Jts2000: They tend to stick with them for a month or so, and then eventually get lazy with their commitments.
3leven: I feel like most people tend to drop their resolutions because it is a long time to have to stick with something.

DahCutie: What are some academic goals you have for the New Year?

JaceDemon: I just hope I graduate. This is my final year of school, and I am really doing my best to make sure I graduate.
Honeybbz9: Definitely to study more. When I have an exam, I have a very bad habit of revising a little too late, so this year I'll definitely be studying about a month before the exam.
Xoxkitkat: This past semester I ended up with straight A's for the first time in a couple years, so I'm hoping to stick with that this year!
Jts2000: My goals for school are basically to remain a straight A student and to avoid getting lazy towards the end of the school year.
3leven: I am in 9th grade, so I need to start thinking about my future, saying college is just around the corner. I tend to struggle in some subjects, mostly math, so my goal is to improve in math and get all A's and B's.

DahCutie: What is something new you would like to try this year?

JaceDemon: I've been wanting to try some Asian food. So far I've only had large amounts of pocky and fortune cookies. That doesn't count does it? I really want to try Casella cake, Dorayaki, and Sake.
Honeybbz9: I would like to try ice skating, because I'm usually a wimp when it comes to things like that.
Xoxkitkat: Actually, I've been super determined to try skiing and maybe fencing this year, so hopefully that gets to happen.
Jts2000: Go to a beach with clear water and white sand. We're probably going down south this summer, so hopefully I'm lucky! I would also like to go to an amusement park with high rides so I can see what it's like to be 400ft in the air. There are no rides like that here, so it would be a fun experience. I guess I don't have anything serious I want to try, just things that are fun.
3leven: I really want to try lifeguarding! I got asked to be a "junior" lifeguard and i really want to do it.

DahCutie: Is there any place you would like to visit this year, whether it would be realistic or not?

JaceDemon: Korea or Japan. I really would love to meet my *second* favorite band SHINee. That, and I love the clothing and culture of both countries.
Honeybbz9: I definitely want to go back to visit the Middle East, I'll be going to Turkey sometime in the summer. Of course I'd like to come to the U.S and Jordan but probably won't this year. I'd also love to go to Saudi again for pilgrimage inshallah. I love traveling!
Xoxkitkat: I went to Disneyland last year and I'd love to go back, and I think it'd be amazing to spend New Year's Eve in NYC.
Jts2000: Hawaii would be nice. So would a Caribbean island. Oh and I've always wanted to visit Poland. ALSO Yankee Stadium since I've only been to the old one. Gosh there are so many places.
3leven: Well I have a pen pal (sounds nerdy, but it's really neat) and she lives in Iceland and I really want to visit her this summer!

DahCutie: What is your overall approach to 2014?

JaceDemon: I am optimistic about the new year. I think it will be a good year and I am going to stay optimistic about it. I have many things I'm actually going to try to do, instead of lazily brushing it off.
Honeybbz9: I'm really happy that it's finally the new year, and would like to stick to my resolutions to better myself.
Xoxkitkat: I know it sounds cliche, but just to try as many new things as I can. I think in the past I've kind of just gone with the flow without a real mindset for really doing things, and I hope to be a little different this year.
Jts2000: Well I'll enter 2014 just as I did in 2013. I love my life right now and wouldn't change much. Hopefully I can have another year like 2013!
3leven: I just want to try new things and become more open minded. I think it will be a good year!

I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to talk to them about how they would like their life to go this year. Happy New Year, Times Readers.
