I turn every day before the announcements begin
To stare at her for slightly too long
To mentally dispute the legitimacy of her grin
But I'll never know if my answers are wrong
And wonder too often whether she's really okay
Or is simply trudging along

And I think too much of her tattoo
And whether she got it for him
A futile relationship of young love
That should have never been
And I wonder if she'll even make it
Or if she walks her path alone
Or how long it'll take for her warm, beating hurt
To turn as frigid as a stone
And it may be that I worry too much
About a girl I've never known
But every time I look at her
I can't help but notice the bones
That grow in odd angles
Over her heart
Sheltering her from ever
Going back to the start

You built her so high up,
She never thought she'd fall
Then stalked her in the absence of light
And callously took it all
Her cracks protrude, visible
She's becoming too thin
Beginning to wonder if,
This game, she'll ever win

And perhaps I shouldn't worry so much
Over a girl I've never known
But I hope you know you broke her
And now she walks her path alone
