Author's Note: This poem plays off of a classic nursery rhyme "Hey, Diddle Diddle" by Mother Goose. If you don't know it, this poem will be weird. If you do know it, well, this poem will still probably be weird.

The dish and the spoon ran away
Left a note, saying, "Sorry it had to be this way"
The knife never realized his relationship's digression
As the dish struggled with her depression
The dish felt liberated and free with the spoon
At least at first, but the excitement ended soon
The dish began missing what she'd given up
The knife was better than any fork or cup
He was sweet and loyal, but what for?
Only to have his heart left in the drawer
But the knife never gave up on the dish, in fact
They started talking again and began making contact
The spoon thought he was set for life
With the dish as his new wife
So it's ironic that what caused him such strife
Was the dish left the spoon and went back with the knife
