Loving Whyville without the Hassles

Hi Whyville, :)

This is girlyleo, writing in response to Shelly1's article on freedom. In it she stated that we should have more freedom and more power. I ask you all, more power and freedom to do what?

In Whyville I see a city of children having fun, playing, talking to friends from all over the world. I see young people being able to create their own parts to wear and to show and to sell. I see children having the opportunity to write for a paper that will be seen by hundreds of people.

I think we have enough freedom here in Whyville as it is. We're allowed to do almost everything we want within boundaries. It is only right that these boundaries are created by the people who have invented the city, e.g. City Hall and staff. We should not see them as trying to take away our rights or taking away our freedom. I think that we should see them more as protectors and caretakers of us and our city.

If you had this freedom you are asking for, what would you do with it? I mean, what have you done for your Whyville town up to now? Ask yourselves this: if you made a city where children could learn and play, would you allow these children to have control over everything in the city? Yes, it was created for them, but not made by them....

Imagine the chaos that could be brought upon Whyville by improper use of total freedom. I feel that Whyville has given us enough freedom to do what we want and if we break the rules we should face the punishment (like being taped or banished). I love Whyville and would like to see it grow as healthy as it has been growing so far, with our input but also with the control and maintenance of the town left to the city workers. I hope you feel the same.

This is girlyleo sayin byez and have fun. :D
