The loneliness builds in her chest
Like a ghost building up her mournful song
The girl sits alone, staring at the wall

Her eyes, they used to shine so bright
But look at her sitting there,
She's lost the will to fight for life

A single tear drips down her cheek
As she remembers how things used to be
How did all this time go by?
She's haunted by his lullaby

The sweet song he used to sing to her
As he rocked her to sleep at night
She misses the way he tucked her in to sleep
And checked for "bad things" under the bed
He was the only one who believed that it wasn't all in her head

Her hero, her father, her very best friend
She sits in the corner, mourning his end

They tell her that it gets easier,
That the pain will go away
But they don't know how much he means to her
They don't realize the pain is going to stay

It bores a hole straight through her chest
Deep into her soul
She won't forget the night he died
She was stronger then, she didn't cry
She can't keep up the pretense much longer
People will know soon, she's not getting stronger

Instead, she's slowly wasting away
Fading into dust, with tear stains on her face
As she takes one more breath, she begins to sing
The lullaby he rocked her with, now the song of mourning death
