Looking Back at SkUmBaG68

It's been about a month and a half since the article The Perfect Krime was published. In the archives, I found an article by Bettyjoe, (He's Got Guts), and that's what kind of got me thinking about this incident again.

I don't think it's such a big deal any more. I mean, most of us have probably forgotten about this, I s'pose. Pushed it to the back of our minds. Big one moment, forgotten the next.

At first though, everybody knew about it. Seems like this hacker really got a reaction out of us, I mean there were tons of articles about him/her. Instant fame, and the fact that the person's identity is unknown makes him/her even more mysterious. Maybe he (she, it...) was playing us for fools, getting a kick out of how we responded so quickly, so angrily, you know? I'm not sure.

I re-read the article over, when the hacker used the alias SkUmBaG68. Did anybody notice anything about the writing style? It was so mature... how he was talking straight to you, criticizing you. And the sentence structure... either he is a very talented writer, or an adult with way too much time on his hands. This isn't the work of a child.

I don't know why anybody would admire him, and I don't know why I wasted my time writing about him. I suppose it was a good way to raise awareness; the results of giving out your password. But when you look at it that way, it may have been a set-up by City Hall or the Times Editor to shake us up a bit. Looking back, we all got excited. And that's life. It might be foolish, it might be worthwhile. Whatever it is, I don't know. And I think it's time to focus on better things. Maybe some of you can waste your time examining my bored point of view, if you got nothing else better to write 'bout.
