For my senior english class we were given the task of writing a poem, so I chose to write a Shakespearean sonnet, with rhyme scheme, iambic pentameter, and all.
I can't believe we have to write a poem.
We aren't Shakespeare's proud descendants, Miss.
I guess this is a skill I should have known,
'Cause poetry can help us reminisce.
I started writing this by counting all
The syllables and which of them are stressed
And now I'm thinking "who's she gonna call"
But I did all my homework so I'm blessed
For being given the ability
To rhyme and write and read and stiff like that.
It takes some great responsibility
To homework while you're still trying to chat
I know I just used homework as a verb
But Shakespeare made up all of his own words.
