Opinion of Small Nut

Hey-lo Whys, Baynut here with another animal debate for the Hot Topics.

I've been anticipating this article a long time, but what really got me going was IloveAG's "Nothing Wrong Here" article. I quote:

"...really, people, they're just animals. We're smarter. "

Since when does being smarter than someone make it OK to kill them? If I'm smarter than someone, can I get by with his or her murder? Of course not! It's all right to kill them for food, but we should do it out of necessity, not from lack of respect. And besides, animals can act smarter than humans in a lot of ways, like when a dog or a cat wakes you up during a fire.

I mean, I'm OK with eating animals. It's the way we were made. Like a bear. But unlike bears, the animals many of us eat have been tortured. Drugged. Mutilated, even. Just read Giggler01???s article "Carrot Juice is Murder", from last week.

Another quote:

"Now for all you vegetarians out there, bad news: you're not helping anything! Farmers are not going to stop meat production. That's their way of life, making money, supporting their families. So as long as you don't eat meat there will be dead animals lying there in the meat section, and then they are just going to rot!"

No one ever said vegetarians were going to stop meat production, to my knowledge. And vegetarians know that, but that isn't the reason most of them quit meat. Think of it this way:

Most people don't murder others. They know that their, well, "not killing" won't halt homicide altogether... but they do know that it is a sin, and they don't want to do it themselves. That is the same reason vegetarians don't eat meat. Like Giggler01, they know what abuse the animals go through, they know that such abuse is evil, and they don't want to be a part of that evil. Do you understand?

I guess I felt like writing this article because of what goes on where I live. Near my apartment, there's a lake that I bike by a lot. Kids out there often fish. I'm not against fishing itself. In fact, I like to eat fish. But instead of eating the fish they catch, the kids will dig out the eyeballs, chop off the tail, and cut off pieces for bait while the fish is still alive. Call me extreme, but every time I see those poor fish, I start to get sick. Why can't these people see that it's wrong? Would they like it if someone stuck them underwater and did that to them? As if that wasn't enough, the older kids catch the ducklings that also live around there and tear them up. Foxes do it for food, but these sick kids do it for fun. The poor mother duck used to have 14 fluffy babies, and now there are only six (maybe fewer now, I haven't gone out in a while due to the hot weather).

This pretty much wraps up my piece of writing, but I hope you Whyvillians out there get the message. Be kind to your fellow creatures, please!

This is Baynut, fading out...
