My family's full of renegades
We never stay for long
We come and go
Are near and far
Then when you blink
We're gone.

My family's full of renegades
So please don't say,
"Enjoy your stay"
Because like dandelion seeds
And stones in a stream
We too, soon
Will just slip away.

My family's full of renegades
But we mustn't care for here
Because when we wake up
It will be a nightmare
Trust me on this, dear.

My family's full of renegades
Our love is bursting at the seams
But no one can tell we're human
Because you'll never see us bleed.

I am the queen of renegades.
And looks may be deceiving
Although I die inside
With each goodbye
I really must be leaving.

Poet's Note: I've pieced this together over the course of a few months, and even as I typed this up I changed an entire stanza. I don't know if I'll ever be happy with it, but I meant to send it in during April for the month of the military child and never got around to it. Better late than never, right?
