History of Our Very Own

Whyville has a very unique history all its own. I was thinking about our little town and realized, WOW! It's so different!! I have, on my other name, been on Whyville for quite a while and have seen Whyville evolve and develop. So, now I have decided to write a series of articles titled "History of Our Very Own"!

The first I wish to write about is our very own Times. I was reading it and thought about how the subjects of the articles have changed so much during the years. So I took a trip to the Archives -- for those who don't know what that is, it is the old Times issues, dating back to the very first issue! And that my dears, is where I began.

That's it?!? That was my first thought when I looked at our first issue of the Times. Guess how many articles were in it? Try... TWO! One, by our Times Editor, and the other by one different little fellow, our very first Times Writer, cyranojoe. I don't know who he/she is, but I have a feeling he isn't at out wonderful town now and I bet she'd be ecstatic to see how much our newspaper has grown! (Hey, if you are out there, cyranojoe, how about sending me a y-mail telling me? I'd be happy to hear from you. :)

The article that cyranojoe wrote was about the aliens! Woah! Nobody writes about those creatures anymore! It's amazing to see how people only 3 years ago, noticed those small little things, the aliens. If you don't know, the aliens are from the Alien Rescue Game.

Next, I took a look at an issue from September 2, 1999 to see what this issue was like. One again I was hit by the same thought: that's all!? This was the 9th issue of the Times, and there was only three articles. And once again, only one was written by a citizen. One article was written by 'Dr. Leila and Friends' about the game, "How do Skaters Get Spinning So Fast?" And it was Part 6! I was impressed. The 2nd article was by our own very much loved Bigfoot Bill, titled "Express Yourself", an article written about... woah, what is this!? You could vote about each others HOUSES?

I was never around to experience that one! You used to be able to go around Myville and look at everyone's houses, and by the door would be a little place where you could vote whether you liked the design or not. I would love to see if people liked my house or not! But, we do not have this little tool anymore, and in a way, that's kinda good.

The third article, written by Lois Lee, who I am guessing is a citizen, is called 'Rene Descartes', about *gasp* Rene Descartes! He was a French mathematician and philosopher, whom I had never heard about. See how the topics are changing?

For my third look, I went to our 56th issue in January 11, 2000. And OMG there was one article! I cannot believe it! Did people really not care about our fun, little newspaper as we do now? This is utterly shocking! But back to the article, it was written by Mckenzie, titles 'My New Year's Story'. Sadly, my computer will not let me open it and read, but I think it's safe to assume it's about Mckenzie's New Year's experience. Another subject change.

Fourthly, I look at our issue from February 8, 2001. I don't know what issue number this is, but if you're interested, go and count yourselves! But actually, this time I was surprised to find a whopping 8 articles!! The first was written by the Times Editor -- his regular "What's New This Week" editorial. Next was an article about Club Why, by Bigfoot Bill. The third article was about Petitions and Polls. Three factual articles. But the fourth, the first opinionated article I read on my journey back in time, was titled "What's Your Style?" by LucasLuv, a Fashion Writer, who interviewed Whyvillians who are still here today, such as Daddle and Chaser! Ever heard of them? I have! The other articles were about Love, being as Valentines Day was coming up.

Do people write about articles like that in the Times today? Not a lot.

For my 5th and final look, I looked at our issue from April 4, 2002. The issue consisted of 18 articles!!! All citizens, too!!! These articles included: "Guide to GeoDig" by Andy109, a good look at our GeoDig Safari; "England's Sadness" by froggy66; and "I am Whyvillian" by an unknown author. This was a poem -- I read it and loved it! Look it up!

Now folks, looking at my data, the Times definitely has a history. Back when only one or two people wrote articles, to when there were 18, it was and is always loved by the citizen and we hope it is here to stay, forever. Now, all of you keep on writing, so 3 years from now someone else will do a look-back on our newspaper and see how many dedicated citizens loved our Times!

This oSTEPHo saying goodbyeee...
*And she was whizzed off by the blowing wind*
